Club 3 Degrees Adds Dunamus – “Power”
Christian Rock Club Installs McCauley Sound
Club Three Degrees moved its musical ministry into its present facility three years ago, relocating from its out of the way location in northeast Minneapolis to the Warehouse District. To fulfill its outreach goals, the ministry needed to be where the people are, on the front lines of the Twin Cities club scene.
"We did it with the help of a volunteer crew, and now everyone is happy with the sound."
Dunamus Lighting and Sound
This largely volunteer-built Christian rock club fills a three-level, 18,000 square foot facility and offers state-of-the-art sound and lighting. Its 1,700 person capacity is the highest of any of the downtown clubs. The club features live music from local and national Christian artists, DJ's every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, plus church services on Sundays and Wednesdays. Admission to the lounge on the lower level is free and features pool tables, DJ’s and a wide selection of non-alcoholic bottled beverages, espresso, smoothies, desserts and bar appetizers. In addition to the prohibition against the serving of alcohol, there are no mosh pits, no slow songs, no secular cover tunes. Bands must play Christian-themed music and share their faith onstage.
Previously, in October of 2003, 16 McCauley N90 modules and four NS1 LF modules plus some monitors and other equipment were installed by Kevin Hautamaki of Dunamus Lighting and Sound of Minneapolis. Kevin’s company, whose name means “power” in Greek, specializes in live theatre installations and theatrical equipment and supplies. When club operators recently decided that they needed more power in their system, they asked Dunamus to upgrade it. He used five of the McCauley AC588, which was designed as
a true high performance subwoofer system. Boasting a power rating of 1600w RMS, this design fills the needs of the most demanding applications. With this club’s size, it needed this kind of capacity. Kevin oversaw the installation, "We did it with the help of a volunteer crew, and now everyone is happy with the sound."
Club 3 Degrees is a multi-faceted club. Besides the concerts and church services, it can be rented for weddings, receptions, luncheons, graduations, business meetings, concerts, fundraisers and other parties. Pastors Steve and Nancy Aleksuk report that even though the atmosphere may be casual and club-like, the music and messages are all about God. Three different services are offered, and the lounge serves food and/or beverages a half hour to an hour before and after each service. The Sunday 10:30 a.m. service features live praise and worship followed by Pastor Mac Hammond and other guest ministers from Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, live via satellite on the big screen. The Sunday and Wednesday evening services with Pastor Aleksuk often include small group discussion after the message. Other aspects of ministry come mainly through the messages delivered by the performers or the music itself. No one is “hit over the head with a Bible”, but counseling is available for those who ask.
How do the customers like the club? Comments include:
“I love this place. It’s clean, the atmosphere is positive, and they most definitely make the best smoothies in the world. If you want to
drink, the Quest is across the street. 3 Degrees is definitely there for a different reason.”
“I’ve only experienced good things here. Good food, great music, amazing fellowship, great prices, even for shows, and it’s surprising how popular some of the bands that play there are. If people can’t handle the Christian base of the club, or the alcohol-free atmosphere, they should go somewhere else. This is a great place!”
“Club 3 Degrees is a great alternative for the nightlife: Inviting atmosphere, a variety of music, and a production setup that has other venues drooling.”
With its punchy bass sound and offering of quality live music, its classy ambiance, the morally upright atmosphere, plus great food and beverages, Club 3 Degrees is definitely a club to be reckoned with on the Minneapolis nightlife scene!
